LA’s First Bone Broth Cafe Opens on West 3rd Street
If you’re following the food and wellness space, then you’ve probably already heard of bone broth. Now, The Osso Good Company, known for its sippable bone broths and soups has opened its first-ever bone broth and Paleo soup café in the neighborhood.
The Osso Good Café, located at 8036 West Third Street and open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., offers the brand’s top selling bone broths and soups, as well as its first-of-its-kind bone broth waffles. In addition to offering hot soups, smoothies, waffles and “blendies,” customers can purchase frozen pouches to take home.
Each bone broth and soup variety is a Whole30 Approved, paleo-friendly, gluten-free and made without added antibiotics or artificial flavors. The Osso Good Co. was founded by Meredith Cochran, Jazz Hilmer and Toran Hilmer, who each believe in the “food as medicine” methodology and that bone broth can greatly contribute to overall health. All ingredients are sourced from small, family run farms in Northern California and Oregon that raise their animals with responsible practices. The Osso Good Co. also proudly donates one percent of all net sales to local charities and sponsorships.
We caught up with Cochran to find out more about the new shop, and the benefits of bone broth.
1. For people who don’t know, what is bone broth?
Bone broth is a rich, satisfying, nutrient-dense superfood that has been prescribed for centuries by physicians and grandmothers alike in traditional cultures to help heal the body from the inside out.
Osso Good bone broths are made in the traditional way by slowly simmering the pastured bones with organic vegetables, spices, organic apple cider vinegar and filtered water for 12-24 hours. The process yields a thick and gelatin-filled bone broth full of collagen, protein, amino acids, minerals, and nutrients designed to leave you nourished, not just full.
2. What are the benefits of bone broth?
In a nutshell, bone broth helps to support the immune system, promote healthy digestion by healing and sealing the gut, strengthen bones, skin, nails and hair, reduce inflammation and joint pain, boost energy levels and promote better sleep.
Bone broth is known for its ability to detoxify your liver and help rid your body of toxins. It simultaneously adds collagen to your skin, allowing your face to stay youthful. Most importantly, bone broth heals and seals your gut. If you have ever spilled bone broth, you know that it is incredibly sticky just like glue. This sticky broth acts the same way in your gut and increases absorption of nutrients while also creating the perfect environment for your gut flora. Because bone broth is naturally anti-inflammatory, you are able to shed weight with regular consumption.
3. How did you get involved with this restaurant concept?
After being in business for over 4 years, our interaction with our customers was mainly virtual through our own website. We really wanted an opportunity to meet our customers in person and provide them with an efficient way to take nutritious foods on the run. One of my favorite things about my work is seeing a person’s reaction after trying our products for the first time. After all, food is medicine but if it doesn’t taste good then who cares?! We focus on high quality ingredients and flavors to help keep you nourished and satisfied.
4. Why did you decide to open on West 3rd Street?
There is something that is very special about West 3rd Street. After spending a few months contemplating the neighborhood that would be most fitting for our flagship store, West 3rd continued to take the lead. It is situated between two huge shopping centers and is incredibly “walkable.” Since opening, the neighborhood has welcomed us with open arms.
5. What do you hope customers will take away from this space and your menu offerings?
At The Osso Good Co., functional food can be both “craveable” and convenient. We want customers to understand that you can have your “waffle” and eat it too. Because we focus on organic and better for you alternatives in our ingredients, our menu is convenient for those looking to feel good both during and after their meal. We also want consumers everywhere to understand how truly amazing bone broth can be. With the many health benefits and versatility of bone broth, it is easy to incorporate into everyday life. And if you haven’t tried it yet, our paleo bone broth waffle is a complete game-changer!
6. Anything else you’d like to add?
We’ve recently launched two new paleo soups…Super Green and Roasted Beet. We hope you will stop by to try our bone broths, soups, collagen smoothies, blendies and bone broth waffles and learn more about why we are so passionate about bone broth.
