Brands That Give Back: The Cause Collection Opens First Brick and Mortar Store on West 3rd Street
West 3rd Street has always been a hub for cool, creative and inspired design, whether it be in apparel, home decor or even the food that lines the tables of our famous restaurants and cafes. But the latest arrival to the neighborhood does more than just sell and showcase good design — they also give back.
Meet The Cause Collection, whose mission it is to “fashion social change.” Their new retail space on West 3rd Street (in the former Social Butterflies space next to Indian restaurant, Electric Karma) showcases an elevated line of essentials in on-trend silhouettes that are responsibly manufactured. The Cause Collection contributes $10 from each sale to one of the three charities they are currently partnering with-including GLSEN, Healthy Housing Foundations and the ACLU. Shoppers are able to select which cause they would like to contribute to at checkout, empowering them to use their purchasing power to inspire high-impact change.
Founder Cheryl Najafi, a New York Times Best Selling Author and mom of three, sought to use her voice in all of the product and content she creates through uniting like-minded women around tolerance, humanitarianism and social justice. Her passion lies in empowering women to help move the needle while using fashion as a conduit. The brand features carefully constructed styles that you can work and play in, all while feeling comfortable, put together and confident knowing the factories that their clothes were produced in adhere to standards that consumers can trust.
We caught up with Najafi to find out how The Cause Collection came about, how she chooses her charitable partners, and what shoppers and visitors can expect from the new West 3rd Street space.
What’s the story behind The Cause Collection? What inspired you to start it?
As a response to the hate rhetoric and divisiveness I was witnessing, I created the company to help bring people together. The world doesn’t need another charity, we need to support the ones with boots on the ground doing important and effective work, helping those that have been marginalized and are underserved. This is rooted in our DNA.
Who is your target customer?
We serve dynamic, stylish women that are on the move. She’s busy, discerning, cares about the causes we are collectively supporting and believes in using her purchasing power to make a difference where she can.
Tell us about your current collection and offerings? What’s the aesthetic, inspiration, etc.?
We create clothing with thoughtful design details and clean lines that are always well crafted. We’ve recently been adding unique touches with color and mixed patterns that are placed perfectly and move with you throughout your day.
How do you decide what charities to partner with?
Advocating for Tolerance, Humanitarianism and Social Justice is at the core of how we make decisions on which charities we partner with. We partner with organizations with boots on the ground fighting on behalf of these causes and the individuals in need.
Why did you decide to open on West 3rd Street? What do you like about this neighborhood?
Our CEO, Jackie, and I did a lot of soul searching with this decision because it’s such a big step for a digital-first company! Jackie had lived in the area for years and connected with the roots of the neighborhood and I immediately felt the upbeat vibe and energy coming from West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, La Brea and all the surrounding corridors. West 3rd Street is in the soul of LA with major intersections at each end that help us serve a greater LA customer. We think it’s a perfect fit for our vibe!
