Wardrobe Department Is Where The Stars Shop on West 3rd

January 22, 2017

West 3rd Street is home to a number of celeb-fave hangouts, from the star-spotting patio at Joan’s on Third, to Kylie Jenner’s favorite vintage denim haunt, Lot Stock and Barrel. Tucked in just off the intersection of Sweetzer and West 3rd is another big destination spot. This is Wardrobe Department.

Started by friends and wardrobe stylists April Roomet and Arell Hughes, Wardrobe Department just celebrated its first anniversary as a go-to spot for some of hip-hop and Hollywood’s biggest stars. (Need proof: Nas and Jermaine Dupri showed up to the store’s grand opening in December 2015).

With a mix of high-fashion brands and up-and-coming labels, along with vintage finds and custom pieces, Wardrobe Department specializes in both everyday looks and red carpet glamour. Their signature aesthetic is “Tomboy Chic,” something both Roomet and Hughes display in their own personal style, as well as through their decades of experience styling clients like Santigold, Ice Cube, Big Sean and more.

Roomet is known for her work with some of music’s biggest artists and image-makers, including Hype Williams, Francis Lawrence, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Lauryn Hill. As a stylist, costumer and creative consultant, she has a knack for pairing casual and luxe pieces together to create something magical.

Hughes, meantime, is a style consultant who has worked with Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland, along with many others. She is also a longtime retail expert, having run boutiques in California as a storeowner and buyer. She is also known for her exceptional visual merchandising.

Wardrobe Department carries shoes, apparel, accessories and home decor items. It’s also a great place to go for unique, one-of-a-kind gifts that you can’t find anywhere else.

And even though Roomet and Hughes are now running a full-time business, they haven’t left their styling days behind them. There’s a custom wardrobe closet in the store for stylists to come and pull pieces for shoots and events. The two also close down the store occasionally for private shopping, when it’s a high-end client. In other words, keep your eyes peeled on Wardrobe Department, because you never know who’s going to swing by!

Wardrobe Department is located at 311 1/2 South Sweetzer Avenue (at West 3rd Street). More details about the store can be found HERE.
